It’s hard to imagine Dolly Parton, decent, charitable, sincere woman that she was, giving the ranking White House rat the time of day. But then we have come to know that if Trump says something, it can only be false. Considering the decades of practice he has put into developing his lying skills, it’s a wonder he isn’t better at it. But then, when you’re rich enough and protected by an entourage of toadies, you are never called to account, never challenged, never required to explain yourself—never capable of feeling shame. Sad business altogether.
We Canadians are grateful—in a perverse sort of way—to Americans for keeping the rat for themselves. We’d be even more grateful if those of them who are fed up with him would get their finger out and do whatever it takes to put the felonious ogre behind bars.
Once he’s incarcerated someone should explain to him, quietly, slowly, as if to a child, that Lake Ontario is not, as he seems to think, named after a Canadian province. Quite the opposite in fact: the province of Ontario is, as all the rest of the world knows, named after the lake, which acquired its name hundreds of years before there was a United States or a Canada. Yes, I know…..facts have a hard time penetrating that bewigged, befuddled skull. One can but try.
From the “people-in-glass-houses” department: Hilroy a Canadian stationery company, just released this fall’s shipments of school exercize books—the ones with a map of Canada on the front. To the quizzical dismay of Canadians everywhere, Hilroy seem to be under the impression that Newfoundland and part of Cape Breton Island have sunk into the Atlantic. The premiers of both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia were quick to reassure Canadians that this is not the case. You don’t suppose Trump has been up to his lunatic antics again! Somebody should warn Greenland! A red-faced Hilroy are working to correct the error. Quite so.
I think she actually said, “I’ll be dead soon, like you.”
